About Role

OnPoint is expanding its tax services practice and is seeking a Tax Preparer/Accountant to play an integral role in that growth. We’re looking for a CPA who is passionate about building strong client relationships, confident working independently, and committed to delivering accurate, timely, and thoughtful work. This is a client-facing position for someone who enjoys solving complex tax matters and takes pride in providing exceptional service.

As a trusted tax advisor, you’ll serve a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients, preparing and reviewing tax returns, providing proactive tax planning and advisory services, and helping clients make informed financial decisions throughout the year—not just during tax season. The ideal candidate combines strong technical tax knowledge with sound professional judgment and a client-first mindset.

Duties and Responsibilities

Client Advisory

  • Serve as a primary point of contact and trusted advisor for assigned clients on tax matters
  • Lead quarterly tax planning conversations and identify opportunities to reduce tax liability
  • Explain complex tax concepts in a clear, confident, client-friendly way
  • Respond to client questions and IRS correspondence with professionalism and urgency
  • Build long-term client relationships through proactive communication and responsiveness

Tax Preparation & Compliance

  • Prepare, review and file business tax returns, including partnerships (1065), S-Corporations (1120-S), C-Corporations (1120), single-member LLCs (Schedule C), and trusts/estates where applicable
  • Prepare, review and file individual returns (1040), including multi-state filings, high-net-worth individuals, rental properties, and investment income
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Stay current on changing tax laws and communicate relevant updates to clients

Advisory & Planning

  • Calculate estimated tax payments and support quarterly planning
  • Advise clients on entity selection and structuring
  • Support retirement planning strategies and cash flow/tax forecasting
  • Provide audit support and represent client interests as needed

Growth & Collaboration

  • Identify opportunities to expand services and support the continued growth of OnPoint's tax practice
  • Collaborate with the broader accounting and advisory teams to deliver seamless client experience
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard client financial and tax data

What Success Looks Like

  • Clients trust you and know they can count on a timely, accurate response
  • Returns and filings are completed accurately and on schedule
  • You proactively surface tax-saving opportunities rather than waiting to be asked
  • You contribute ideas that help grow and strengthen OnPoint's tax service line

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required
  • 3+ years of tax preparation experience across business and individual returns
  • Client-facing experience, comfortable serving as a client's primary contact
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and current federal/state tax regulations

Critical Competencies

  • Confidence to work independently while knowing when to escalate complex issues
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and resolve tax issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software, QuickBooks (Desktop & Online), Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and related financial/accounting systems

Why Join OnPoint

Join a growing firm that is strategically investing in its tax practice and creating opportunities for meaningful professional growth. You’ll build trusted, long-term client relationships, deepen your tax advisory expertise, and play a key role in shaping the continued growth and success of our tax services.

Working Conditions

This position is based in a professional office environment and requires regular, on-site attendance during standard business hours. The role may involve extended periods of sitting at a desk, working with computers and office equipment. Employees should be comfortable operating within a fast-paced setting that may require multitasking and adaptability to shifting priorities. The office promotes a collaborative atmosphere, and effective communication with team members, management, and clients is essential. Minimal travel may be required for meetings or professional development.
